The support axle is a crucial element in automotive construction. Its primary function is to withstand vertical loads, longitudinal and lateral forces from the vehicle, as well as the torques generated by these forces. For example, the rear axle of a single-axle drive three-axle vehicle and the axle on a trailer are typical applications of support axles. In front-engine, front-wheel-drive vehicles, the rear axle is also classified as a support axle.

Taking the Santana 2000 as an example, we can clearly see the practical application of the support axle. The rear axle of this car is a support axle, composed of several components including a welded assembly, a rubber-metal bearing, and the rear wheel assembly. During driving, the rear axle rotates relative to the vehicle body via the rubber-metal bearing, while simultaneously working closely with the trailing arms and shock absorbers to provide stable support for the vehicle.
